INTRODUCTION    Products    UV Performance    Contact

Unlike most competitive UV incorporation methods where the dye is added to the polymer melt, Heatwave polymer’s UV-absorbing dye is chemically bonded to the polymer. The bonded dye is immobile and will not extract, migrate to the surface, and/or volatilize. This UV inhibitor solution does not exhibit the difficulties and expense associated with liquid carriers or concentrates. This method of incorporating the UV inhibitor assures the converter that the UV protection is in the polymer and will provide consistent performance. Brand owners can be assured that their containers will have UV protection. The specification for UV performance is: <10% transmission at 370 nm for a 12-mil-thick film.

Heatwave PET CF746 delivers performance well within this specification as shown in detail in the following linked graphs and summarized in the following table.

UV Performance for Stretch Blown Bottles
% Transmission1 at 12 mils thickness 15.4 mils thickness
365 nanometers 1.5 % 0.5 %
370 nm 3.0 1.2
375 nm 7.9 4.0
380 nm 20.6 13.7
