Technicians work under the general direction of engineers, chemists, computer scientists, and microbiologists.

| Depending on the type of technician's responsibilities, possible projects may include: |
|
- Troubleshooting, configuring, and repairing a variety of complex electronic equipment;
- Developing, designing, and preparing drawings required to complete plant modifications and improvement projects;
- Conducting technical experiments and projects involving method or process research, development and improvement;
- Instrument and equipment design;
- Preparing regulatory reports and operating reports for the State or Environmental Protection agency, conducting audits, and calculating statistical control limits.
- Collaborating with others on projects involving a variety of techniques
- Leading and participating on multi-disciplinary teams.
- Documenting experimental work and writing technical and invention reports.
Potential candidates must meet one of the following requirements. |

- a 2-year degree and/or the required number of college hours in the applicable discipline
- must have the required number of college hours and courses necessary to meet the company's technician qualifications
- must have passed applicable certification examinations such as the NICET "A" and "B" tests
