This measure shows the number of process safety incidents globally that match specific criteria established
by the American Chemistry Council. In 2012, Eastman had seven global process safety incidents. Although we did
not meet our 2012 target of five, we continuously strive to reduce our global process safety incidents.
Eastman closely monitors the rate of distribution incidents involving the shipment of our products,
including those that are considered hazardous by the U.S. Department of Transportation and other international
and regional regulatory authorities. In 2012, our adjusted rate of incidents was 0.17 per 1,000 shipments,
a significant reduction from our 2011 rate of 0.25 incidents per 1,000 shipments.
