Hiring Process - Tennessee Operations, Maintenance & Laboratory (hourly positions)

Qualifications and Requirements

Basic
Job applicants must meet all basic qualifications to be eligible to become a candidate. To be hired, job applicants must also meet other qualifications listed below and successfully complete all steps in our hiring process. Basic qualifications include:
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent education required
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Other Qualifications:
Beyond the basic qualifications listed above, job applicants must also have the following qualifications and requirements:

  • Must follow all safety procedures.
  • Must be able to push/pull/carry up to 50 pounds; work at elevated heights and in confined spaces; work in inclement weather.
  • Must wear company-provided personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses with side shields, and hard hats at all times in designated areas. Dust mask, rubber gloves, face shields, and other protective equipment must be worn when required.
  • If required, must work a twelve (12) hour rotating shift schedule. Overtime work is required from time to time.
  • Be familiar with basic computer functions such as creating, sending, and receiving e-mail and data entry.
  • Have a strong work ethic, demonstrating both initiative and a professional attitude.
  • Will work in a team setting and must have clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to apply mechanical fundamentals to properly operate and maintain the performance of the equipment within their area of responsibility.

Applicants hired must successfully perform the duties of the entry-level position to be considered for advancement into one of our certified apprenticeship or structured training programs.

Application Process

  1. Register with your local Career Center and apply to the Eastman job posting. If you reside outside the state of Tennessee, please complete the Tennessee Career Center Application and fax it to (423) 224-1816.
  2. Apply on-line to the posted job requisition for Manufacturing Operations/Manufacturing Support, Maintenance or Laboratory (hourly positions)
  3. Receive KeyTrain Information and Log-In/Password from the Alliance for Business & Training (AB&T).
  4. Take free practice assessments on-line & complete lessons as needed.
  5. Once the Eastman required levels on the practice assessments have been achieved, the applicant must call in to schedule an Assessment Appointment with AB&T…
  6. Achieve required Eastman level scores on WorkKeys modules (Reading for Information, Locating Information, and Applied Mathematics). Based on which position the applicant applies for, the required level of scores may vary. AB&T will provide information on Eastman standards. (Note: Applicants applying for Maintenance positions will be required to pass a fourth module, Applied Technology, to be considered for those jobs.)
  7. Once the applicant successfully passes all assessments, Eastman will receive scores from AB&T. Eastman will then request High School and college transcripts, as well as any applicable certificates. (Request will be e-mailed at that time.)

It is very important that contact information (phone number, e-mail address) is kept up to date on both the Eastman on-line & Career Center applications.

*Note – if a free Hotmail or Yahoo account is used, it must checked at least once every 30 days, or it may become inactive.

Interview Process

If the applicant is selected to continue the application process, he/she will be asked to complete the following:

  1. An on-site 1st interview
  2. A 2nd/final interview conducted within the hiring area
  3. If an offer of employment is extended, the applicant will be required to complete and pass a mandatory drug screening and pre-employment medical evaluation.
  4. A background check will be conducted only if the applicant accepts a job offer from Eastman.
  5. Due to the demand for entry-level employment at Eastman, this process can take up to 12-18 months.
