Technician

Technicians work under the general direction of engineers, chemists, computer scientists, and microbiologists, etc. Typical job titles include Engineering Technician, Drafting Technician, Control Systems Technician, Laboratory Technician, Systems Technician, and Bio-Sciences Technician. They must possess at least a 2-year degree in the applicable discipline, have the required number of college hours and courses necessary to meet the company's technician qualifications, or have passed applicable certification examinations such as the NICET "A" and "B" tests.

Depending on the type of Technician, possible projects may include:

  • Troubleshooting, configuring, and repairing a variety of complex electronic equipment, process control computer systems, communication equipment, etc.
  • Developing, designing, and preparing drawings required to complete plant modifications and improvement projects.
  • Conducting technical experiments and projects involving method or process research, development, and improvement; instrument and equipment design; analytical problems; scale-up evaluations; customer service plant trials; etc.
  • Providing information, end-user support, systems training and problem resolution regarding desktop and business computer applications.
  • Preparing regulatory reports and operating reports for the State or Environmental Protection Agency, conducting audits, and calculating statistical control limits which are used to demonstrate compliance.
