In Nature
It's our responsibility to minimize our footprint on the earth. Protecting people and the environment is our top priority. While we continually strive to improve our operational effectiveness, we also look at other innovative ways to protect and enhance the beauty and quality of the environment around us. Preserving our natural resources improves the quality of life in our neighborhoods and ensures a cleaner environment for future generations. We also believe in the value and importance of environmental education. We must encourage our children to appreciate and protect our surroundings.

Envirothon Competition (South Carolina, United States)
South Carolina Operations (SCO) has been the corporate sponsor of the SC Envirothon Competition since its inception.

The Department of Natural Resources first selected SCO as a potential sponsor based on its environmental stewardship and compliance record. The annual competition provides scholarships to high school students based on students' knowledge and skills in natural resources study areas.

Wildlife Habitat (Texas, United States)

Texas Operations is home to a 200-acre Nature and Wildlife Habitat Center. The Nature Center includes the following: .6 mile nature trail; three classroom stops with podiums and benches; demonstration beehive; 40-acre demonstration forest; and a wildlife rehabilitation pen. The Nature Center hosts a variety of events during the year from classroom visits to teacher training. One of the annual events hosted each year at the Nature Center is Project Learning Tree's "A Walk in the Forest". Project Learning TreeĀ® (PLT) is an award winning, multi-disciplinary environmental education program for educators and students in PreK-grade 12. Each year 30-40 teachers converge on the Nature Center to spend a day learning how to use the PLT's Environmental Education Activity Guide to teach their students about the outdoors. The Texas Forest Service leads the training at five different "stations" throughout the nature trail. For more information, visit http://www.plt.org.

Texas Operations has also been a major sponsor of the Texas State EnvirothonĀ® since its inception in 2001. Texas Operations continues to provide both voluntary and monetary assistance with the competition each year. Eastman has even hosted the state competition at its Nature and Wildlife Habitat Center in Longview. Several Eastman employees volunteered at the on-site event. For more information, visit www.texasenvirothon.org or www.eastmanoutdoorstexas.com.

The Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia conducts periodic environmental studies on the Sabine River which borders the Texas Operations plant to the south. Results from these studies continue to show that TXO has no negative impact on the river.

Wind Turbines (Workington, Cumbria, United Kingdom)
Two wind turbines have become fully operational on the site in Workington, Cumbria. The two REpower MM82 wind turbines are now supplying renewable electricity to the Eastman Chemicals facility. The turbines will assist the company in achieving targeted improvements in energy efficiency and at the same time reduce cost. Wind energy is one of the many technologies to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and is the cleanest and lowest form of renewable energy available.
