Industrial Gasification - How does it work?

Start with the most common source materials -- coal, petroleum coke, or biomass. These source materials, or feedstocks, are placed in a state-of-the-art gasifier along with water and oxygen (or air) at high pressures (up to 1200 psig) and temperatures (up to 2600º F) to produce raw syngas.  Then sulfur, carbon dioxide and other contaminants are removed to produce a valuable new raw material or a clean-burning fuel that is composed primarily of hydrogen and carbon monoxide.
