New cellulose ester additive drives productivity, performance and end-use aesthetics
Kingsport, Tenn. (November 18, 2009) – Eastman Chemical Company introduces its Eastman Solus™ 2300 performance additive for high-solids, Volatile Organic Compound (VOC)-compliant coatings.|
Ideally suited for applications such as automotive and OEM solvent borne basecoats, Solus™ 2300 has been specifically engineered to help achieve higher solids and lower VOCs while improving performance and aesthetics. Additionally, Solus™ 2300 helps boost productivity through enabling higher solids levels and reducing dry-to-touch time.
Eastman’s formulation and market experts announced the new product in Shanghai at ChinaCoat, where they are exhibiting at Booth E3 B01-07 from November 18-20.
“Eastman’s investments in skilled chemists and state-of-the-art applications capability continue to deliver practical and tangible results for our customers,” says Erin Bernhardt, Eastman’s business manager for performance additives. “Assessing market needs and innovating more sustainable solutions are part of Eastman’s DNA.”
In addition to lowering VOC levels and boosting productivity, Eastman Solus™ 2300 is derived from natural and renewable cellulose materials.
The proprietary technology behind the Eastman Solus™ family of performance additives leverages Eastman’s skills to meet diverse customer needs. These needs are based on region, end-use applications, and environmental conditions within the manufacturing facility, refinish shop, or for field-applied coatings.
The performance additive family’s first commercialized product, Solus™ 2100, was introduced in 2007 and quickly gained market success.
“Eastman is hard at work developing additional Solus™ performance additives for both waterborne and solvent borne systems that will meet the evolving regulatory and performance needs of our customers,” says Bernhardt. “We hope to expand the family to include the first Solus™ performance additive for waterborne coatings sometime next year.”
Eastman Solus™ 2300 is now available commercially in Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia. For more information, please go to www.eastman.com/solus.
