Eastman to Announce Polymer Portfolio Expansion for Medical Packaging at MD&M West
Eastman Expert to Present Innovation Briefs on Polymer Technology at MD&M West
Kingsport, Tenn. — Jan. 12, 2010 — Eastman Chemical Company announced today that it will launch a design collaboration with DD Studio, a leading design thinking and product development firm, at the Medical Design & Manufacturing West (MD&M West) trade show Feb. 9 to 11, 2010, in Anaheim, Calif. During the show, Eastman also will introduce expanded capabilities of its polymer portfolio for medical packaging, and will participate in the show’s Innovation Briefs Theater with a presentation on polymer technology for medical devices.
Medical Design Collaboration
Eastman is working with premier design firm DD Studio to explore strategic, human-centric innovations for the medical market and other industries. Through the collaboration, DD Studio and Eastman are working together to investigate new medical-device applications for Eastman Tritan™ copolyester. At MD&M West, Eastman and DD Studio will unveil a new medical device that showcases the breadth of design and processing possibilities of Tritan.
Medical grades of Eastman Tritan™ copolyester, which were launched into the medical market during MD&M West in February 2009, provide outstanding lipid and chemical resistance; higher heat stability; excellent long-term clarity; added durability and toughness; and are made without bisphenol-A (BPA) or halogens. Tritan also provides design flexibility, ease-of-processing and other valuable prototyping properties that make it ideal for product development.
“By pairing DD Studio’s forward-thinking, creative design process with Eastman’s material and technical insights, this collaboration offers innovative, quality solutions to practical design needs,” said Scott Hanson, global industry leader, medical market segment, Specialty Plastics Business, Eastman Chemical Company. “We look forward to continuing to work together to provide medical-device manufacturers with design and material insights.”
Expanded Capabilities in Medical Packaging
Eastman provides technical support and innovative medical-grade polymers for protective and functional rigid medical packaging and non-implantable medical-device applications. Eastman’s comprehensive medical portfolio includes medical grades of Eastman Tritan™ copolyester and Eastar™ copolyester, among other traditional copolyesters.
During MD&M West, Eastman will announce expansion of its medical polymer portfolio to include new material options and solutions for medical packaging.
“Eastman is committed to the long-term needs of the medical industry. We continue to be a reliable supplier of medical-grade polymers,” Hanson said. “We look forward to expanding our capabilities and offering our customers additional material solutions for medical packaging.”
Innovation Brief Presentation
Gary S. Hawkins, medical technical platform leader for Eastman Chemical Company, will conduct a presentation entitled “Pioneering Polymer Technology for the Medical Device Industry” at the Innovation Briefs Theater at MD&M West. The presentation will discuss material attributes, including outstanding processing, heat resistance, toughness and clarity that have resulted from continued innovation of Eastman’s medical polymer portfolio. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Booth 639 on the MD&M West show floor.
