Eastman To Display Cerfis™  Technology, Explore its Potential at IBS

Finished Elegance™ interior moulding and trim is first application; opportunities abound

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 8, 2012 – Eastman Cerfis™ technology is a patented technology that enables superior surface solutions with a variety of substrates and coatings. At IBS, Eastman will feature Finished Elegance™, the first application using this technology, and display other application concepts.

Finished Elegance™ moulding and trim, manufactured by Woodgrain Millwork, has a super-smooth surface that is virtually unattainable on conventional millwork, and it’s more durable and water resistant than other finishes. It’s also a time-saver for both do-it-yourselfers and professional finish carpenters, because installation is as simple as cutting, nailing, and caulking – eliminating the need for several coats of paint and the sanding between them. Its VOC-free formulation is environmentally friendly, and it is made with GREENGUARD™-certified resins.

This story so impressed representatives at The Home Depot that they selected Finished Elegance™ with Eastman Cerfis™ technology as a finalist for the company’s Innovation Award for 2011. The product is currently available in white exclusively at many Home Depot stores in the eastern U.S. and at www.homedepot.com.

Attendees can see Finished Elegance™ at booth W729 at IBS, but they’ll also find Eastman experts eager to show additional concepts and explore with visitors how the technology might be used to improve other products or provide the opportunity to create new ones.

“What’s exciting about Eastman Cerfis™ technology is its potential,” said Luis Pagán, Eastman’s specialty plastics business manager for the retail and architecture markets. “It’s about innovation that makes things possible that weren’t before.”

Pagán sees potential to use the technology on door jambs, window frames, and ready-to-assemble furniture, but he’s hoping people will stop by the booth and allow Eastman staff to share ideas on the future of surface coatings.

“We’re very eager to see how people in various product categories respond to Eastman Cerfis™ technology and identify how it might improve their offering or provide an opportunity to stay ahead of their competitors,” he said.

Pagán says this proprietary continuous process results in precise dimensions and tighter tolerances while enhancing product aesthetics, performance, and consistency. It can add strength to substrates and hide their imperfections, enabling manufacturers to construct their products with materials that are more reliable or cost-effective than what they’re using now.

Pagán also stressed the wide spectrum of substrate options possible with Eastman Cerfis™ technology, including medium density fiberboard (MDF), wood, fiberboard, oriented strand board (OSB), particleboard, composites, plastics, and metal.

“I am looking forward to talking with people at the show and sharing ideas on how this technology can benefit them,” he said.
