New Luxtiera chair design combines airy beauty and solid durability

KAWAJUN uses a dramatic design and Eastman Tritan™ copolyester to brighten gathering spaces.

Kingsport, Tenn., USA — September 27, 2017 — Japan-based KAWAJUN Co. Ltd., designed their new Luxtiera chairs to make environments seem lighter and more spacious while providing exceptional toughness and user comfort. The choice of Eastman Tritan™ copolyester is a clearly a beautiful way to meet these design criteria.

Luxtiera is a clear chair for public space and commercial usage including premium hotels, restaurants, hospitals and offices—wherever people gather, meet and relax. Tritan helps by providing dramatic clarity, functionality and ease of processing.

One key design element of the Luxtiera chair is the diamond pattern molded throughout the chair. According to Ms. Nanae Imbe, chief designer of KAWAJUN’s Planning & Development Group:

“We designed the Tritan chair to give it the power to change its surroundings. The diamond cuts reflect light and cast beautiful shadows while retaining lightness and clarity.”

The diamond cuts present a unique challenge for molders. The properties of Tritan make this dramatic contemporary chair easier to process and give it greater impact strength and resistance to body oils and environmental cleansers. Tritan also makes the chair more comfortable and softer feeling for the end user.

“We knew this design was too demanding for polypropylene, the plastic used in traditional chair applications,” says Ms. Imbe. “We looked at other options, but PMMA didn’t give us the toughness nor the chemical resistance we wanted—and polycarbonate lacked the chemical resistance we needed for durability.”

KAWAJUN had many years of experience working with Eastman Provista™ copolyester, so they were familiar with Eastman’s ability to provide total polymer solutions, including technical and design support.

The Luxtier chair was introduced in October 2016 and has generated numerous sample requests and good feedback from restaurants and office brand owners.
