User-friendly Site Connects Eastman™ Material Performance to Industry Needs

KINGSPORT, Tenn., Jan. 23, 2008 — In its mission to deliver a total solution approach to the medical industry, Eastman Chemical Company announces the launch of its online Medical Technical Center, located on its corporate website at www.eastman.com/Medical. The site is organized to allow medical OEMs, processors, and designers to access comprehensive product and processing information critical to application success, from design to product launch. By providing fitness-for-use polymer information, including clarity, toughness, chemical resistance and color stability, along with the ability to undergo certain processes or secondary operations, users can select the appropriate Eastman™ polymer for a wide-range of non-invasive medical devices, and flexible or rigid packaging applications.

“Our site’s new Technical Center demonstrates how material science can enhance medical science,” says Glenda Eilo, global industry leader. “Eastman supplies high-quality polymers for a host of applications within the healthcare industry. Now the market can easily access Eastman™ medical-grade polymer attributes and comparisons, and can also take advantage of our extensive product and processing knowledge to achieve optimal results.”

The new Medical Technical Center includes material maps comparing Eastman™ polymers to other clear polymers typically used in the medical market. The information is organized to allow users to narrow their search of Eastman polymers based on material performance and processing parameters, including how a material withstands secondary operations such as joining, sterilization, and thermoforming techniques. Processing guidelines provide tips on how to produce high-quality parts from Eastman polymers.

Other features include the ability to toggle between the Technical Center and main Medical market content. Also, visitors to the Medical Technical Center can easily go to the Medical content on the Eastman Innovation Lab (www.eastmaninnovationlab.com/medical) to learn how Eastman’s materials were utilized to create innovative healthcare design concepts.
