Eastman Chemical Company is proud to be an Emerald sponsor providing 38 classrooms within our Putting Children First partnership with this unique learning opportunity. Not only does our sponsorship provide newspapers for selected PCF classrooms but it also provides a 4th grade math supplement, Math Rules, to every fourth grade student (approximately 4,500) in the Putting Children First partnership. This supplement is used as a mathematics enrichment tool to coincide with the school mathematics curriculum. Eastman also sponsors a Math Question of the Week where students provide mathematical questions to stump the reader. Any student from any grade level is welcomed to enter. Students whose questions have been published throughout the school year are entered into a drawing for free prizes. The sponsoring teacher also wins a prize package of math manipulatives for his/her classroom. Winners will be drawn and announced at the end of the school year.
In addition to the mathematics supplement, Eastman also provides a Career Pathways supplement to every 8th grade student (in a PCF school) to coincide with the 8th Grade Career Expo. This supplement provides information about career choices, salary grades and educational requirements for various occupations. With this supplement, students gain an understanding of future career goals that will help when making decisions regarding their high school courses.
