Eastman Chemical Company, a Responsible Care® company, fully supports the objectives of the Regulation EC 1907/2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH). The main objectives of REACH are to determine the hazards of chemicals and to carry out risk assessments in order to protect human health and the environment.
Eastman confirms its compliance with REACH. Where relevant and required, all substances manufactured in and imported into the European Union by Eastman have been duly registered and/or pre-registered. For further information on REACH, please contact your Eastman sales representative.
For polymers: polymers are exempt from registration under REACH, however all monomers and additives are pre-registered and registered where relevant, such that our polymer products are REACH compliant.
Classification and Labelling Inventory CLP Regulation (EU) No 1272/2008
In the EU the classification and labelling of hazardous substances and mixtures is regulated by Regulation (EU) No 1272/2008. The Regulation foresees in the establishment of a Classification and Labelling Inventory. All manufacturers and importers have to notify the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) all substances that are subject to registration under REACH and all substances that are hazardous on their own or are present in mixtures at a concentration that leads to classification as hazardous. Notification is not necessary if the required information has been included in the REACH registration dossier. The Inventory has been published by ECHA, but does not include substances not classified as hazardous.
Despite its establishment under the Regulation, the Inventory cannot be relied upon to contain correct classifications. Notifications received by ECHA are neither checked for correctness nor verified to be based on scientifically sound information. In addition, there is no requirement that the notifier be a manufacturer or importer of the substance or mixture. Without adequate checks, there are significant concerns that some substances may be mistakenly or even deliberately classified incorrectly.
For products registered under REACH, Eastman Chemical Company actively participates in consortia and substance information exchange forums (SIEFs) to assure that hazard determinations and classifications are based on the most reliable scientifically sound study information currently available. The results of the assessments are laid down in safety data sheets.
