| Common Privet (Ligustrum japonicum Thunb.)... | ||
|
This non-native shrub, originally native to China, Korea, and Japan, has been planted extensively as an ornamental. Commonly planted in warm regions, its compact shape and stiff short branches and leaves make it a perfect hedge. Since its introduction into cultivation in about 1860, common privet has escaped cultivation and is now considered with the native East Texas plants. Quick ID: Shrub to 20 feet tall. Leaves simple, opposite, evergreen and ovate-lancelate. Leaf margin entire. Fruit a berry-like drupe, oblong, and blue-black. |
