EASTMAN NATURE & WILDLIFE CENTER
GUIDELINES FOR ACCESS
We hope you enjoy your visit to Eastman's Nature and Wildlife
Habitat Center. While we want you to enjoy the Center, we also want your visit to be an
interesting and safe one. The following guidelines will help assure enjoyment of the
Center.
1. Visits to Eastman's Nature and Wildlife
Habitat Center should be scheduled through Eastman (Ms.Sally Azbell, 903-237-6256). Requests for
tours should be made ten (10) days prior to the tour date to assure the
accessibility to the Center.
2. Visitors must have completed the Texas
Forest Service's Project Learning Tree (PLT) Workshop or be accompanied by a
PLT graduate.
3. Visitors will be required to sign the document entitled "Nature and
Wildlife Habitat Center Group Visitors Pass and General Release and
Indemnity Agreement" (Agreement) prior to entering the Center. If an
individual(s) is responsible for a class or group of young people (under 18
years old), then the individual(s) should sign the Agreement on behalf of
the class or group as "Leader Responsible for Group."
The Agreement can be obtained from Eastman Security at the Main Gate. The
signed document should be left with Eastman Security at the Main Gate.
4. A key to unlock the gates at the Center may be obtained at Eastman's Main
Gate. The individual requesting the key must leave his/her driver's license
at the Main Gate in exchange for the key. The names of individuals obtaining
keys to the Center will be entered into a logbook by Eastman Security.
5. Visitors
should stay on the marked trails and observe any warning signs. USE OF THE
FACILITIES WILL BE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
6.
For emergencies, call 911.
Please notify Eastman Security at 237-5240 if 911 assistance is requested.
7. Caution should be exercised at the Center, since this area presents the
same type hazards encountered in East Texas forests -water hazards, vines,
poison ivy, feral hogs, snakes, insects, and old barbed wire. Special care
to avoid stings should be exercised in the area around the bee observation
hive.
8. The Center is normally opened during daylight hours, Monday through Friday. The trails
will not be available on Saturday and Sunday as special projects and maintenance will be
conducted on these days.
9. Individuals may utilize Eastman's Nature and Wildlife Habitat Center on the following
basis:
a. In addition to an instructor or leader, a class of
students or a group of individuals must be escorted by a
graduate of Project Learning Tree (PLT) or a graduate of "Walk in the
Forest" administered by the Texas Forest Service at the Center, at all
times.
b. If the
instructor or leader has completed the Eastman Wildlife Habitat Program
Training Course, is a graduate of PLT or "Walk in the
Forest", then he/she may serve as a Tour Guide to the subject class of
students and enter the Center without an escort.
c. School classes or
groups should have a maximum of 10 to 1 student/instructor ratio.
10. Archery equipment and firearms (including air pellet or BB guns) are prohibited.
11. Smoking, fires, matches or lighters are prohibited.
12. Alcohol and illegal drugs are prohibited.
13. Electrical vehicles used by individuals requiring physical assistance are permitted.
14. Bicycles and motor vehicles (other than that referenced in 11 above) are prohibited.
15. Unescorted youth 18 years of age and under are prohibited.
PORTABLE RESTROOM FACILITIES ARE LOCATED AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE CENTER OFF
GARLAND ROAD, AND ON THE EASTMAN WILDLIFE TRAIL (LONG TRAIL) AT THE
NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE EASTMAN DEMONSTRATION FOREST. DRINKING WATER IS NOT
AVAILABLE AT THE CENTER.
