There is a continuing trend to replace automotive metal parts and fasteners with plastics, thermoplastic elastomers and adhesives.  Eastman Chemical Company makes many products that are useful in producing modified rubber and plastic compounds for automotive applications as well as adhesives used for applications such as carpet and sound-dampening insulation, headliner attachment and application of decorative decals and details.

Eastoflex amorphous polyolefins are useful in formulating low-cost adhesives in applications where high heat resistance and cohesive strength are not required such as sealants, insulation placement and carpet backings.  Tackifying resins such as Eastotac hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin, Piccotac hydrocarbon resin, Foralyn hydrogenated rosin resin, and Permalyn rosin esters are useful in producing adhesives based on a wide range of base polymers from natural rubber to acrylics.  Follow the links in the table below to determine which tackifiers are suitable for a specific polymer type.  Pure monomer resins are used in various plastic and rubber compounds as flow modifiers, processing aids and reinforcing agents.  Eastman G polymers are used as coupling agents in filled plastic composites to reduce viscosity or permit higher filler loadings and as compatibilizers in polymer alloys.

Amorphous Polyolefins Eastoflex

Low cost base polymer for hot melt adhesive and sealant applications. Excellent resistance to weathering, chemical and UV resistance.

Functionalized Polyolefins Eastman G Functionalization introduces reactive sites and wetting properties to polyolefins. In filled plastic composites this allows better wetting, reduced viscosity, higher tensile strength, better impact resistance and permits higher filler levels. In polymer alloys they allow the mixing of normally incompatible materials such as polypropylene and nylon.

Hydrocarbon Resins Piccotac Aliphatic and aromatic modified hydrocarbon tackifiers compatible with polymers ranging from polyolefins and natural rubber to SBR and SBS block copolymers. Compare Products
Hydrogenated Hydrocarbon Resins Eastotac

Hydrogenated aliphatic tackifiers with a range of softening points and colors for wide formulating flexibility. Good compatibility with polyolefins, natural rubber and SIS block copolymers.

Regalite Hydrogenated aromatic tackifiers with a range of softening points and levels of hydrogenation. Excellent UV stability and compatible with a wide range of polymers. Applicable in UV-curable acrylic systems where a balance of compatibility and low UV adsorption is desirable.
Hydrogenated Pure Monomer Resins Regalrez Hydrogenated pure monomer aromatic tackifiers with a wide range of softening points and levels of hydrogenation. Fully hydrogenated grades have superior UV stability and compatibility with polyolefins and SIS block copolymers. Compare Products
Pure Monomer Resins Endex

Wide range of products from liquid to 160°C softening point. All are based on various types of aromatic purified monomers for very low color and excellent stability. These products associate mainly with the styrenic phase of block copolymers and act as flow modifiers and reinforcing agents in thermoplastic elastomer compounds. In injection molding of rubber and plastics pure monomer resins act as flow modifiers and processing aids by reducing the melt viscosity of SBR, PVC and EVA compounds without plasticizing the finished material.
