CABs are used as additives in radiation curable coating. In such coatings, they can provide improved as flow and leveling, adhesion, and reduction of surface defects.
CABs can also reduce or eliminate holes in curtain coatings, often used for wood, and reduce spattering in high-speed roll coat applications.
Cellulose esters are soluble at levels up to 10% by weight in a variety of monomers, including styrene. The highly butytlated Eastman™ CAB-551 types are the most compatible and soluble and are valuable ingredients in ultraviolet-cured coatings and inks.
