Copolyester sheet is fabricated using a method similar to the production of other thermoplastics, such as acrylic, poly-carbonate and polyvinyl chloride. The mechanism of solvent bonding enhances chain mobility by reducing the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the polymer; in other words, the softening of the polymer allows the two substrates to fuse together.
Practical application in the laboratory shows solvent bonding copolyesters are sensitive to proper techniques in edge preparation and curing.
