Extrusion Blow Molding

Extrusion Blow MoldingExtrusion blow molding EBM)is used to produce hollow containers, articles, and component parts. Typically, the resins are thermoplastic resins such as copolyester, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polycarbonate, and so forth. The molding process consists of melting the resin in the extruder, forming the parison through a head and die assembly, then blowing the hollow parison, and quenching the sidewalls inside a mold to the desired shape.

Typical Medical Applications: Medical and Pharmaceutical Packaging, Medical Tubing, Labware, IV Solution Bottles

Extrusion blow molding should be used when the contents of the molded containers are packaged at ambient or very low pressure. Because of low capital investment for new molds, extrusion blow molding lends itself to low and medium volume production runs. EBM products can have complex shapes and a wide range of sizes. Wall thickness is easily varied, even in the individual articles.
