The Texas Society of American Foresters sponsors an annual  Walk in the Forest for Teachers. The workshop is geared toward all adults who are involved with outdoor education programs. During this fun, outdoor, hands-on workshop, participants are trained in Project Learning Tree activities that utilize local forest trails to teach environmental education. Topics include soil and water conservation, forest management, forest products, tree identification, and wildlife relationships.  The workshops are held at Eastman Chemical Company's Nature and Wildlife Habitat Center.

One of the program's assets is pairing a natural resource professional with a teacher at each station.  The teachers can then show educators how to adapt PLT activities to different age levels in the classroom and explain how each activity can be used to teach science or math concepts that correspond to the state teaching standards.

Brochures for the workshop are mailed to all Region VII schools.  The workshop is sponsored by the Society of American Foresters, Texas Forestry Association, Eastman Chemical Company, and the Texas Forest Service.

For more information on the next workshop, contact Phillip Gates, Texas Forest Service at 903-693-6865.
