The Texas State Envirothon® is a two-day academic, extra-curricular environmental and natural resource education program and competition designed for high school students. Teams of five students work together to answer questions focusing on five areas of study: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife, and Current Environmental Issue (which changes each year). In addition to the field experience, students also participate in an oral component focusing on solving a real-world environmental problem.

Winners are awarded each year in the following categories: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife, Current Environmental Issue, Oral Presentation, and Overall.

Goal 1: To promote a desire to learn more about the natural environment and develop knowledge and skills to apply the basic principles and practices of resource management and ecology.

Goal 2: To promote stewardship of natural resources and develop critical thinking skills, cooperative problem-solving skills, and decision making skills of students to balance the quality of life and the quality of the environment.

Goal 3: To provide students with experience in environmentally oriented activities to enable them to become environmentally aware, action oriented citizens.
