Eastman’s Nature Center is a great location for outdoor classroom learning. Teachers can bring their students to simply walk the trail and experience nature on their own, or they can participate in organized activities along the trail. These “Forest Awareness Tours” are typically one-day events with 5 to 8 “stations” along the trail. Organizations that lead these stations include Texas Forest Service, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Natural Resource Conservation Services, and East Texas Beekeepers Association. During these one-day events, students may learn about deciduous and evergreen trees; what products come from trees; how animals, insects, and fowl camouflage to survive; and how honeybees are important to an ecological system.
