Eastman announces MDIPA start up and Alkyl Alkanolamine expansion in China

KINGSPORT, Tenn., November 1, 2018 – Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN) announced today the successful start-up of the methyldiisopropanolamine (MDIPA) unit in Nanjing, China. This is a new product for Eastman that will primarily be sold into the home care industry.

"We are committed to meeting our customers' global needs. China is clearly a growth market for care chemicals and we are committed to further developing our Nanjing site."  

"We are very proud of the team in China which met a very aggressive construction timeline and did it in a safe manner," said Tamara Denecker, Manufacturing Director for Care Chemicals. "The unit started up recently and we are already meeting quality expectations and planned production rates." 

In addition, Eastman has decided to expand its alkyl alkanolamine capacity in Nanjing by building a world scale unit primarily to produce Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE/DMEA) which is used to make intermediates for the water treatment and energy markets. The project is underway and will be finished in the second half of 2020.

Eastman has changed the site's name from Te An Ling Tian Fine Chemical Co.,Ltd. (TALT) to Eastman Chemical (Nanjing) Co.,Ltd. 

Eastman's Nanjing plant produces methylamines, alkyl allkanolamines, and solvents like DMF and DMAC.
