TruLast™ Technology
In 2012, Eastman introduced Perennial Wood™, one of the company's first direct-to-consumer product since the 1930s when it produced and sold charcoal briquettes. An acetylated wood product, Perennial Wood may be new to the market but its roots run deep as Eastman has more than 80 years of history in acetylating wood pulp.

The proprietary acetylation technology developed by Eastman creates wood that is long-lasting and change-resistant. Simply put, we modify the wood throughout, increasing its dimensional stability – resulting in three times more resistance to shrinking and swelling. It means Perennial Wood warps, bows less and cups less over the life of the wood. Best of all, Perennial Wood looks and works like beautiful, real wood – wood that happens to have a physical barrier throughout that is warranted to protect against rot, decay and movement for decades. The durability is real. The applications are endless. The potential is revolutionary. This is the next generation of wood.

Given the longevity and character benefits of Perennial Wood, it's a natural fit for the residential construction industry and an extension of Eastman's presence in building and construction. In 2010, 13 percent of Eastman's total revenues were derived from sales of products, chemicals and polymers to the building and construction industry.

Today, people are staying in their homes waiting for values to recover, and investing in home improvements that incorporate higher quality and authentic materials – materials like real wood with real character. Not only does Perennial Wood pass the authenticity test, it also provides peace of mind to anyone who is looking for a sustainable product that will last for decades.

Eastman is actively engaged with Responsible Care® and is committed to continuously improving its sustainability performance through innovative, environmentally and socially responsible solutions.
