Meet Eastman Esmeri™ SK1N10

Formulators are raising the bar for what a single ingredient can do. Eastman Esmeri™ SK1N10 cellulose ester micropowder was developed to meet that challenge.

Esmeri SK1N10 provides an immediate soft-focus effect, quick dry-down, reduced tackiness and shine control. The result is a soft, powdery matte finish for skin and sun care. Best of all, it delivers this performance while supporting your biodegradability goals.

Designed for evolving biodegradability requirements

As regulatory requirements evolve, material choices matter. Esmeri SK1N10 is a readily biodegradable,¹ non-nano² cellulose ester micropowder designed for aqueous and oil-in-water systems. It is not considered a synthetic polymer microparticle under Regulation (EU) 2023/2055, as it meets the regulation’s biodegradability criteria.

1 Readily biodegradable in compliance with regulation (EU) 2023/2055 on “Synthetic Polymer Microparticles”
2 According to EC recommendation of (2022/C 229/01)

Engineered for skin and sun care

In skin care, Esmeri SK1N10 delivers an immediate soft-focus effect that helps minimize the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles.

In sun care, its UV-scattering properties can enhance organic and inorganic UV filters. By supporting film uniformity and optical performance, it can help improve SPF efficiency and enable lower UV-filter concentrations while helping minimize white cast and improve skin feel. Performance depends on the overall formulation and must be validated through testing.

Frequently asked questions

Esmeri SK1N10 is a readily biodegradable, non-nano cellulose ester micropowder for skin care and SPF applications. Its INCI name is Cellulose Acetate Butyrate (and) Disodium Succinate.

Esmeri SK1N10 can provide an immediate soft-focus effect, help minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines, reduce tackiness, control shine, and create a soft, powdery matte finish. In SPF formulations, it can also provide an SPF-boosting effect.

In SPF formulations, Esmeri SK1N10 enhances the performance of organic and inorganic UV filters through an efficient UV-scattering mechanism. It can help formulators achieve desired performance while reducing total UV-filter concentrations; results depend on the overall formulation.

Esmeri SK1N10 is designed to help reduce total UV-filter concentrations while achieving the desired performance in SPF formulations. Formulators should verify performance in their own finished formulation and testing.

Esmeri SK1N10 dries down quickly and is designed to help reduce tackiness and control shine, leaving a soft, powdery matte finish. It also supports an immediate soft-focus blurring effect.

Esmeri SK1N10 can be used in serums, creams, moisturizers, sprays, eye treatments, sunscreens and other skin care systems. It is designed for aqueous and oil-in-water systems.

Esmeri SK1N10 is designed to fall outside the scope of the European Commission’s Regulation (EU) 2023/2055 on synthetic polymer microparticles. Formulators should assess the ingredient and finished product against applicable requirements for their specific use and market.

Yes. Esmeri SK1N10 is classified as non-nano and validated based on European Commission Recommendation 2022/C229/01 and French Decree No. 2012-232.
