Resources for teachers and students

Eastman’s educational programs include student forest awareness tours and Project Learning Tree’s Walk in the Forest educator workshop.

Forest awareness workshops

Teachers can bring their students to simply walk the trail and experience nature on their own, or they can participate in organized activities along the trail. These tours include three to six stations along the trail led by different organizations, including Texas A&M Forest Service, Northeast Texas Field Ornithologists, Texas Forestry Association, Natural Resource Conservation Services, East Texas Beekeepers and Eastman. Students can learn about deciduous and evergreen trees, what products come from trees, how honeybees are important to everyday living and more.

A group of children identify real leaves by comparing them to printed diagrams.

Walk in the Forest workshop

Project Learning Tree sponsors Walk in the Forest workshops for educators, geared toward K–8 teachers and college students majoring in education. During this fun, hands-on workshop, participants train in Project Learning Tree activities that teach environmental education activities outdoors.

The workshops for Northeast Texas Region 7 Education Service Center are held at Eastman's Nature Center and are led by Texas A&M Forest Service, the Texas Forestry Association and Eastman staff.
