Eastman begins Therminol® 55 operations in Brasil

New investment offers local supply of heat exchange fluids in South America.

São Paulo, June 1, 2015 — Eastman Chemical Company recently commissioned a new operations line for Therminol® 55 heat transfer fluid at its Scandiflex manufacturing site in Mauá, Brasil. The plant, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Eastman, provides local production and storage and reinforces the company’s commitment not only in Brasil but also in South America.

“The Eastman Scandiflex site in Brasil will enable us to improve service to our customers. We are committed to providing reliable and responsive delivery systems and are confident that this operation will benefit the entire region,” highlights Eastman fluids specialist, Nicola Tripaldi.

The new Therminol 55 fluid operation at this site is also an important step to the integration of Eastman manufacturing. Initially, the plant was focused on production of plasticizers but now offers support for the Specialty Fluids and Intermediates business segment.

“We have trained our employees for receiving, raw-material handling, process control and final approval of the material, following strict quality assurance specifications,” said Luis Andre Mazurok, industrial manager for the site. “Our investment at the site paid particular attention to environmental, legal and safety requirements — from raw material receipt, to all processing stages, to shipment and delivery of the finished product.”

The first step towards adding this Therminol 55 operation in Brasil was implemented last year when Eastman established a quality assurance lab in the Mauá plant. The lab conducts all needed tests to authenticate Therminol 55 quality shipped from the Mauá facility. The lab uses processes and standards established in Eastman installations from around the world, providing certificates of analysis (COAs) to customers on request.

The lab is also performing in-service fluid testing and analysis for used heat transfer fluid for customers in Brasil — just one of the many services provided through the Eastman TLC Total Lifecycle Care® program.

Therminol 55 is a synthetic heat transfer fluid designed for use on nonpressurized or low-pressure systems, offering an efficient, reliable and uniform heat exchange. Therminol 55 provides excellent resistance to thermal oxidation and degradation when compared to mineral oil alternatives at a competitive price. The fluid is used in applications in the textile, chemical and petrochemical, automotive, asphalt, plastic, biofuels, oil and gas industries.

Therminol fluids offer solutions both for high-temperature heating and cooling, and Eastman is globally recognized for their excellence in technical support, customer service, performance and innovation for more than 50 years. For more information, visit www.therminol.com
