Eastman TRĒVA™ engineering bioplastic secures USDA Certified Biobased Product Label

Brand sustainability professionals and design engineers can learn more at Bio-Based Live in San Diego.

Kingsport, Tenn. — Sept. 14, 2017 — Eastman Chemical Company, the world’s leading producer of cellulosic materials will showcase Eastman TRĒVA at Bio-Based Live (San Diego, Calif.; Sept. 26–27). TRĒVA, a breakthrough in engineering bioplastics designed to help companies overcome the trade-off between sustainability and performance, recently received its USDA Certified Biobased Product Label from the United States Department of Agriculture's BioPreferred® program. This certification verified that TRĒVA GC6011 has a biobase content of 45 percent and TRĒVA GC6021 has a biobase content of 42 percent.

TRĒVA offers a combination of thermoplastic properties and performance, design flexibility — and price — that other bioplastics cannot match. The cellulose in TRĒVA is sourced exclusively from reputable suppliers holding internationally recognized certifications attesting to their sustainable forest management practices. Free of BPA and phthalates, TRĒVA stands up better than other engineering thermoplastics to some of the harshest chemicals including skin oils, sunscreens and household cleaners. Additionally, TRĒVA does not exhibit the rainbow effect some plastics experience with polarized light, improving the user experience with electronic device screens. These attributes make TRĒVA the naturally better choice for eyeglass frames, wearable electronics, headphones, electronic displays and housings, automotive interior components and other applications with demanding sustainability and performance requirements.
