Eastman takes great care to manage our on-site waste production, and we recycle many materials that could otherwise become waste through manufacturing processes like cogeneration. In 2019 Eastman’s Kingsport site recycled 13M lb of cardboard, paper, plastic and other recyclables that would have otherwise been disposed of in a landfill. The 2020 hazardous waste indexed to production was 0.014 kg waste/kg production, which reflects a negative rate increase as influenced by pandemic-related production decreases. Our Integrated Global Supply Chain is committed to developing and using materials that are recyclable, reusable and waste-reducing, whenever possible. For example, we reuse our fiber drums to package our waste materials, sell our plastic drums to drum reconditioners for further use and clean our metal drums before selling them for scrap, which ensures that none of the drums are wasted. We also reuse drum pallets that are in excellent condition, leading to fewer pallets being discarded and fewer pallets purchased.
