Italian company and Eastman offer new polymer solutions for the automotive industry.

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands

Gruppo Maip, a leading international plastics formulator and compound producer based in Turin, Italy, has become an official European distributor of Eastman Tritan™ HM glass-filled copolyester and Trēva™ engineering bioplastic.

This announcement expands the relationship between Eastman (NYSE: EMN) and Gruppo Maip that began last year when the companies announced a partnership to formulate new sustainable polymer solutions for automotive interior applications.

"We're working together to introduce Trēva engineering bioplastic to the automotive industry. This new material is a cellulosic-based solution with excellent flow and clarity to compete with existing material options," said Eligio Martini, president of Gruppo Maip.

"Tritan HM grades are reinforced with glass fiber levels of 10%, 20% and 30% and can maintain their modulus values in demanding automotive applications versus reinforced nylons and commodity polymers," explained Martini. "We are excited to partner with Eastman to introduce these new polymer offerings to the automotive market."

"The European automotive industry is committed to meeting important sustainability targets, and Eastman and Gruppo Maip are offering new and innovative formulated solutions to help them get there," said Chris Scarazzo, global automotive segment market manager for Eastman Specialty Plastics.

Scarazzo added, "Their strong relationships with OEMs and tier suppliers along with Eastman's ability to deliver reliable world-class scale and supply make for an excellent partnership. Above all, both companies are deeply committed to finding new material options with reliable supply to compete with traditional petroleum-based engineered materials to meet demanding application requirements."
