KINGSPORT, Tenn. — LG's new xboom by will.i.am Bluetooth speakers are made with Eastman Tritan™ copolyester, offering unparalleled durability for outdoor use.
Launched in January 2025, the xboom Grab and xboom Bounce speakers address challenges in outdoor environments. Thanks to its chemical resistance, Tritan offers a solution that withstands outdoor use.
“People want to take their music on the go,” said Kim Ga Young, chief development researcher for LG. “Tritan’s exceptional chemical resistance ensures the speakers withstand outdoor environments without compromising performance. Adding this material into the xboom speakers helps us deliver amazing sound anywhere our consumers go.”
Tritan is a durable, long-lasting plastic that offers a luxury aesthetic and is resistant to chemicals, making it ideal for this type of outdoor speaker use. Tritan is used in the xboom speakers’ opaque black exterior and the transparent elements that emit light. It improves the durability of the xboom speaker and helps to prevent cracking, which can affect sound quality.
LG and Eastman began this collaborative project in 2023. Eastman offered technical, application development, marketing and sales support while bringing xboom speakers to the U.S. and European markets. Eastman also helped LG conduct a molding trial for the speaker design.
“Delivering confidence to our customers is key,” said Aaron Kao, sales manager with Eastman. “We love working with LG because we can work collaboratively with their team and our material experts to find the solution that works the best and delivers a quality product to consumers.”
