Eastman cellulose esters (CA, CAB, and CAP) are available in various acetyl, butyryl, and propyl ratios; types; viscosities; and hydroxyl contents. Their high Tg, near-Newtonian flow characteristics, and hydroxyl functionality––while compatible in a wide range of solvents and readily soluble in many common acrylate monomers––assure that Eastman cellulose esters aid formulators as an additive or co-resin for many thermoplastic and thermosetting coating systems.

Eastman Cellulose Acetate CA-398-3 is one of the lower viscosity solution grades of cellulose acetate with an average ASTM viscosity of 3 seconds. Blended with appropriate solvents, plasticizers, and other modifying resins, it is used in coatings formulations for a variety of substrates. Designed for use in automotive basecoats, it is resistant to attack and resistant to redisolve by solvents typical in clearcoats. It has a viscosity of 0.10 sec and 0.38 poise. CAB-321-0.1 is supplied as a fine white powder.
