Eastman Solus for inks

Eastman Solus performance additives are used as an ink additive for packaging films, heat transfer printing inks and screen inks. They also work as modifiers and main film formers.

Formulators in the inks, graphic arts and imaging markets can improve performance, enhance appearance and increase productivity.

NC-free inks for stress-free results

Nitrocellulose-based inks used on polyolefin laminates become unstable when heated, causing discoloration during recycling. This reduces the quality of recycled plastic and makes it harder to reuse.

As a result, some regulations (including in the EU) now classify inks that are nitrocellulose (NC) based as nonrecyclable, which may increase brand liabilities. There is an urgent need for NC-free, thermally stable ink alternatives. Eastman Solus™ delivers a sustainable, high-performance ink with superior adhesion and performance without the recycling concerns of nitrocellulose.

Improve overall performance

Inks formulated with Solus can release solvent rapidly, enabling faster print speeds, improved anti-blocking and better performance.

Low-viscosity grades of Solus may be used in radiation-curable inks to improve wetting and adhesion. They can also decrease surface defects for enhanced film formation and appearance.

Solus can provide these benefits to a variety of inks, including gravure, flexographic, screen and digital as well as to overprint varnishes in both solventborne and radiation-curable formulations.

Applications

  • Commercial printing inks
  • Flexographic inks
  • Graphic arts
  • Gravure inks
  • Inkjet inks
  • Lenticular
  • Overprint varnishes
  • Packaging inks
  • Screen printing inks
  • UV printing inks
