With Eastman Eastobond™ copolyester as the sealant layer in multilayer lidding films, manufacturers and brands can now produce lighter packaging with fully recyclable APET trays. Eastobond can act as a universal sealant layer that enables packaging manufacturers to switch to monolayer PET trays. And by eliminating the need for PE lamination on the food tray, brands can feature food packaging with fully recyclable trays.
Eastobond has been cleared for use in food contact applications under European Union Commission Regulation (Commission Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011) and the FDA (21 CFR 175.300).
Eastobond provides a lower heat-seal initiation temperature than other polyester sealant materials and can seal to monolayer PET trays of different compositions. Sealing temperatures and times similar to industry standard PE-to-PE processes are achievable—especially on high-speed FFS equipment—meaning little to no loss in productivity during the packaging operation.
And it’s suitable for all three sealing technologies, including:
- Locked sealing
- Peelable sealing
- Reclosable sealing
