Eastman’s outreach initiative illustrates power of IT careers for women
We know that people are the heart of our success, and we believe that fostering a powerfully diverse workforce and broadly inclusive workplace can unleash the full potential of our people. For this reason, diversity and inclusion is a key focus for Eastman.
A movement begins. An inaugural Eastman Sit With Me event in the summer of 2015 sparked an initiative focused on diversity and inclusion in Information Technology as well as other technical fields. This overarching Eastman initiative has gained speed following Eastman’s commitment to join the National Center for Women & Information Technology Pacesetters campaign at the start of 2016.
Creating an inclusive culture. For Eastman, an inclusive, global culture is one where everyone can do their best work and want to build a career here. We believe in actively seeking out different points of view, embracing diversity of thought, creating inclusion to ensure the best ideas are brought forward, and engaging in conversations that enrich our ability to generate fresh ideas. We believe these things make our company and our communities stronger. It’s good for business, and it’s the right thing to do.
Why we focus on IT. The number of women who choose careers in the IT profession has fallen drastically in recent years, and Eastman is committed to doing its part to reverse that trend. Eastman IT professionals partner with educators to highlight the array of opportunities in technical fields and to cultivate the interest that young students have in computers and information technology – with the possibility that interest will blossom into a potential career in computing.

Voices from the Red Chair
Hundreds of Eastman professionals and educators gathered for the initial Eastman Sit With Me event, held in Kingsport, Tenn., location of Eastman’s world headquarters. Many of those people sat in the Sit With Me Red Chair to offer their thoughts and words of encouragement for more women in IT. See those images below, and
read what happened.
