A Unique Solution to Balancing Improved Wet Grip and Other Performance Attributes Gets the Spotlight During Presentation at ITEC In Focus Conference

KINGSPORT, Tenn., August 31, 2017 – Hydrocarbon resins and their impact on tire tread compound performance will be the focus of a presentation by Eastman associate scientist Mark Arigo, PhD at this year’s ITEC In Focus conference in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. On September 13, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. to noon, Dr. Arigo will present “Hydrocarbon Resins and Tire Tread Performance.” During his remarks, Dr. Arigo will share the impact of Eastman Impera™ performance resins on tread compound performance.

“Impera is an essential tool for compounders who want to use new elastomer combinations in high-performance compounds. I am excited to share the results of our testing in which we demonstrate the compound properties that can be achieved with the addition of hydrocarbon resins,” said Dr. Arigo. Hydrocarbon resins are low molecular weight polymers with relatively high glass transition temperatures. They are effective in tire tread formulations for modifying the properties of a compound to impact wet/dry grip and rolling resistance performance, resulting in tires with improved safety, handling, and fuel efficiency.

Dr. Arigo carries out his research at the Eastman Technology Center of Excellence in Akron, Ohio. At this facility, a diverse technology team with experience across the value chain engages in application research, product development, and analytical analyses.
