Eastman Scientist to Speak about Enhancing Tire Performance at IEC 2018

Akron, Ohio — September 26, 2018 — At the International Elastomer Conference (IEC) in Louisville, Kentucky October 9-11, an Eastman Tire Additives scientist will give a technical presentation that touches on a key industry topic: using Eastman Impera™ performance resins to achieve superior “Magic Triangle” outcomes in tires.

“With such fierce competition among tire manufacturers, it’s incumbent on raw material suppliers to develop tools to help brands differentiate their tires’ performance. Our technical presentation at IEC explores innovative technologies and offers insights that address balancing performance trade-offs,” says Dr. Brock Thomas, Director of Tire Additives Technology for Eastman.

The presentation by one of Eastman’s technology leaders will take place on Tuesday, October 9, 2:30-3:00 p.m.* Dr. Mark Arigo, Application Research Scientist, will give a presentation titled “Performance Hydrocarbon Resins in Tread Formulation: Balancing the Magic Triangle.” In his presentation, Dr. Arigo will discuss how improving tread performance has traditionally involved a choice between polymers, fillers, oils and resins. With each ingredient, there is typically a performance benefit in one or more areas, along with corresponding trade-offs in other areas. Dr. Arigo will explore the impact of Impera performance resins on tread compound performance and examine why resins provide unique solutions to balancing wet grip performance compared to other options. His presentation will show how resins break the traditional wet/wear trade-off and can significantly improve the abrasion resistance of tread compounds with little compromise in wet grip performance. In addition, he’ll reveal resin compounding strategies that result in an improved wet/snow performance for winter and all-season tires.
