Eastman Scientists to Discuss Sulfur Dispersion and Formulation Insights for High Severity Service in Heavy Tires

Akron, Ohio, USA — November 2, 2018 — Sulfur dispersion and formulation insights for high severity service in heavy tires will be the focus of work shared by two Eastman Tire Additives scientists at the KHK 13th Fall Rubber Colloquium in Hannover, Germany November 6-8, 2018. The technical presentation by Dr. Dominica Wong will explore why the tensile dispersion test provides valuable insights into sulfur dispersion and how this approach guided the development of innovations such as Eastman Crystex™ Cure Pro insoluble sulfur. A poster by Dr. Leandro Forciniti will examine how polymers and other additives influence formulations for high-severity service in heavy tires, including Eastman Impera™ performance resins.

Dr. Dominica Wong will present "Evaluation of Sulfur Dispersion using Population Survival Analysis" on Wednesday, November 7 at 11:50 a.m.* Her presentation will examine how formulators can use tensile dispersion testing to better understand the dispersion of insoluble sulfur. During her talk, Dr. Wong will examine the use of Weibull distributions and parameters, as well as the role tensile dispersion testing played in guiding innovation development like Crystex Cure Pro.

Dr. Leandro Forciniti will share a poster that provides an overview of how formulators can determine the influence of polymers, filler, crosslinkers, and other tire additives on formulation for high severity service in heavy tires. The poster content will focus on tires for use on motor vehicles with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or more with tread cap formulations that require a balance of tire wear, heat build-up, tear, traction, and ride comfort.

Both Eastman scientists will be available at the conference to discuss their research and answer questions.
